And he’s been doing the same thing every day since.
After living the apocalypse for nine years, Regan thought they’d experienced every kind of loss and terror imaginable. But when a new group starts wreaking havoc in the Oklahoma wastelands where they live, Regan and Kellan are faced with a new set of horrors.

Review for Consumption by Valarie Savage Kinney

Consumption by Valarie Savage Kinney

Blurb:

…Consumption is a chilling collection chronicling the stories of six people consuming or being consumed by something unnatural.

The Satisfaction of Mercy
Mercy was left for dead in the toxic sewers of Detroit, and now she is consumed with the need for revenge.

Jagged Disintegration
Kelsey has fallen victim to a terrible virus with the power to destroy her life from the inside out.

The Wedding Takeover
Laura is determined to finally have her perfect wedding day, even if she must steal it from someone else.

To Scotland!
Eric is broken-hearted when his best online friend disappears, and he’d give anything to have her back… but not like this.

Creeping Moss
Celeste didn’t notice the first black spots, until they spread and took over every aspect of her life.

Maternal Consumption
Samaria has fought the gnawing hunger in her gut for years, until she’s finally satisfied by eating something she shouldn’t.

Review:
This short story collection is not only Halloween worthy, but worthy of any horror lover's bookshelf. I have to say, these stories were short but punchy. Scary, weird, unnatural, and downright gross in some ways. You won't be bored, that's for sure, as you travel among different stories of people who became ill, people who died, and one or two that will remind you of Hannibal Lecter. Yes, that extreme. It was a very intriguing read and well written!
5 out of 5 stars!

Don't let the title fool you; this book is about an underground lair of vampires with a little bit of a horror spin to it. She lives in the deep south in Arkansas with her husband, 4 kids, and 2 dogs. Bree loves to read and has quite the addiction to coffee and sweets. Her inspiration comes mostly from dreams and conversations with her husband.

Blog Tour for Farm House by Steve Soderquist

FARM HOUSE by Steve Soderquist

10 years ago a little girl was supposedly murdered. 10 years ago that little girl got away.
Now after eight years of living on her own, feeding from garbage cans and doing what she must to survive and still remain anonymous, the lies that had been told to her have led her; her sense of vengeance and retribution back to the door-step of whom she considers to blame.
Those who stand in her way receive nothing of mercy, as her relentless pursuit to extract revenge on those who robbed her of her life come to a chilling close as nothing will stop her...and no one is to be spared.

Steve Soderquist was quite a successful musician twenty-odd years ago and spent many years on the road. He was with numerous bands before finally settling down to a more regular life. However, the writing bug kept biting at him. Steve had started a book called, 'Mind’s Eye' when he was seventeen and it never left him. Even though the writing muscle had certainly atrophied, he was getting that tickle like you get in the back of your throat when a cold is coming on.

Publishing his first novella 'One for the Road' motivated him to propel. When 'Farm House' was complete and those blessed two words were put down, 'THE END' he knew he found his calling.

Following up with the science fiction thriller, 'Seeds' then co-writing the romance thriller 'Rogue' with author Laura Ranger, Steve finished the short children's story 'The Littlest Princess' and is currently working on two more titles.

Imagine what you would do if The Zombie Apocalypse, a long time favorite topic of authors in the Zombie genre, finally happened? Would you be prepared at all and have a chance to survive or would you be unprepared and quickly die or become a Zombie?

This book is the first of three that I plan to write for this series. It tracks the travels of myself and 3 friends as we attempt to escape the Zombie apocalypse. Our journey begins in Southern Illinois, in a town named Carbondale. We travel across the country attempting to reach Elysium, which one of the larger safe havens in the United States. Along the way we meet new friends and attempt to dispose of new enemies.

The apocalypse was caused by a combination of factors. One was our government allowed people with the Nova Virus to come to our country to get help. We are still the only country that allows that. Second, a corrupt (Are there any others?) mega corporation that was given a huge government contract to perfect a vaccine to cure the Nova Virus allowed the vaccines to become contaminated. Millions of people took the vaccine and I think the reader will figure out what happened as a result of the contamination.

It is very hard to keep politics out of Zombie books, so I do not try to. I express my opinions as I see things as do the other characters in the book. Please keep in mind that this book is a work of fiction.

All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Review for Slither by Valarie Savage Kinney

Review:
I'm not going to lie.  This book freaked me out a little bit.  I am not fond of snakes.  They're on the list of creepy crawlies that I don't like so the thought of a snake hanging out in your body waiting to come out and do some bad stuff is a lot to take in.  Especially the idea behind it being some strange snake god who is in control of it and requires being fed...people's insides.  That's right. It goes down their mouth and eats their insides.  Disgusting right?  But it makes for one interesting horror type story.  There's your love interest between Emmett and Zari.  Zari is our main character and I have to say that she is a strong and brave character, but so is Emmett.  Both have had to suffer huge injustices because of their families and got away from it.  Well, Zari thought she did until her family showed back up and because she doesn't want to pledge her allegiance to Slither, they want to take her baby when it's born.  This book was pretty crazy messed up but it was an intriguing read and I would give a good 4 stars!

Synopsis:
We're often told tales of the underworlds to feed the darkest corners of our nightmares. We tuck them away with the sunlight and laugh away the fear our minds created. But the daylight offers no relief for Zari. She's hidden her waking nightmare as nothing more than a damaged past. The venom of her secrets consumes her, as well as those she cares for most. Emmett, the love of her life and the only one with a past dark enough to respect her space, becomes a pawn in the war against the demonic force which is her bloodright. Can Zari overpower those out to get her to feed on the innocent? Can she save Emmett from the evil of Slither?

He Sees Me by John Sivils

"He's outside right now.....He's watching us."

Some secrets are not meant to be remembered.  Some secrets are buried by our subconscious because of the circumstances and what it puts our mind through.  But these secrets have been forced from the mind, cut out like paper snowflakes.  The shadow following around Matt is the type of creature that can make people forget their memories.  People become nonexistent.  Matt has to wonder what kind of thing can make you forget someone who was at one time in your life.  And where do they disappear to?
Things weren't always like this.  Matt lived a fairly normal life besides only having one parent, a crazy one at that.  He had apparently been adopted and raised by his father.  Because of the rocky relationship between the two of them, he played with and stayed with his best friend, Nathan, growing up.  Now they were at college together.  But Nathan disappears and Matt is determined to find out where he went to.  Once he starts looking for clues, he feels like he is being watched all the time.  The clues are horrific and ones that he cannot even begin to wonder about what they all mean.  Pill bottles, a large circle with an x in it, and what looks to be blood stains is what he starts finding.  But there's more.  Oh so much more.  And the more Matt looks for the shadow man, the more attention he draws to himself.  His life and his sanity is on the line.

                                         "Watch your step."

If you know anything about the Slender Man, then you will probably enjoy this book!  I, myself, know very little about this character, but I know that this book creeped me out!  It is a psychological thriller/horror story that will keep you up at night!  Pull up a chair and turn on all the lights because before you are finished, you will be looking in the shadows of your home checking for the boogie monster!  Besides having some minor grammatical errors, it has a great story line and is a good read.  I don't read much horror, and will warn you, this one has some nasty and gory parts to it.  It is not for the faint of heart!

The Flesh Market by Richard Wright

The Cadaver Riots began in Edinburgh in the early 1800's.  Why were they named so?  Because of the mob of cadavers that swarmed the city, tearing at and eating people wherever they found them.  Many were wounded and died from the attack.  And many more were to have nightmares about that night replay over and over in their heads for a very long time.  The poor population was what had been affected the most.  No one knew where the bodies came from or why they came back to life.  Dr. Knox is hell bent on finding the answers they need, although it is illegal to harbor a revenant (one of the undead).  He teaches medical students about the anatomy of the body and must have cadavers on hand for practicing on.  Some would say that his business was shady because he bought bodies that had passed on.  At that time in history, it was looked down on, but robbing graves was much worse than buying the bodies.  He and his few assistants begin taking in revenants and start cutting them up to find out why they are coming back to life.  The answers seem to evade them and when revenants come in that they recognize, questions are raised about the ethics of what they were doing as well as where the bodies were coming from.
Bill and Nelly came to Edinburgh a year after the riots had happened and neither had ever seen one until they had moved here.  A friend of theirs had offered cheap lodging for them, but because things were tight, Bill and Nelly felt like they needed to "help" Maggie, the friend and owner of their current lodgings.  Maggie is willing to go to great lengths to get money, and her new (and very young) husband, William, is willing to go even further.  There is evil surrounding him that everyone seems to sense.  The selling of the revenant that came back to life in Maggie and William's lodge house to Dr. Knox is just the beginning of the slope Bill and William slip quickly down.  It doesn't take long for them to start murdering people and waiting for them to turn.  Funny thing is that they always do, and even in his almost constant drunken stupor, Bill starts to suspect that William knows how to turn them.  Bill had long suspected William of being a very dangerous man, and the further into the story you get, the more you can see why.

Gruesome and fascinating.  A true terrors-of-the-night type of thriller.  Horror fans, this is the book for you!  Although written in a somewhat older style, to match the times no doubt, it is very in depth and many issues and thoughts come from what is really right and wrong in situations such as this.  How far would one go to find answers?  And how far would others go for money?  Bill Burke is pulled into William Hare's world of evil rather quickly.  To douse his conscience, he stays drunk most of the time.  He cannot handle what he is partaking of without it.  And unfortunately, Bill feels stuck in his position.  He knows William will come after he and Nelly.  And he has to keep Nelly safe.
The most interesting thing about this novel is how it was based on real events.  While the Cadaver Riots (and undead in general) were a fabricated part of the story, the Burke and Hare murders were not.  It was very real.  These two men did start murdering people and selling their corpses to a Dr. Knox.  There were several victims of these two Irishmen.  If you would like to know a little about these murders check out the link below:
