But then Alex begins to be haunted by one of his own characters - who claims he is related to Alex's idol Pushkin's Eugene Onegin. This other male will stop at nothing to win Natalie, and perhaps he's not even human. Amazon _ Amazon UK _ Amazon CA _ Amazon AU _ B&N Excerp 1
He does a lot more hand stroking and squeezing. She tries to block her thoughts not only from him, but also from herself. She can’t, however, block her sensations. "Don’t begin excluding me quite yet, Mrs Johnson. I know you can do as much in time; I feel your power. That fool Tupper knew you are stronger by far than he is. Even he succeeded in excluding me when I needed most to be at hand. I would talk with you longer. Continue to coax me, I love listening to you."
She is trying to surround herself with pure white light, but her imagination falters; she’s only aware of his touch. She says, disgusted by the quiver in her voice, "You are in love with this girl. Why are you trying to seduce me? Is it to gain power over me, so I can be discounted as opposition? After all, the other, more powerful practitioners are out of the country –" she breaks off.
He smiles again, and puts up one finger to run down her cheek. "Were those my motives, I would be a fool indeed, for you are an astute woman, and powerful, as I say. To fall foul of you by using you would be not only ungallant, but also stupid. I have confessed I do find you desirable. I suspect you might even persuade me to forget that girl who has rejected me so contemptuously, and my rage and thirst for vengeance."
He smiles again, tickling her fingers. "You might say that the whole balance of power rests in these soft hands. But is your heart as hardened against me as Natalie Nicholson’s, and Madam Lyudmilla’s before her?"
She can’t reply. He moves in for the kiss then. He doesn’t spoil things by haste. His every move is leisurely, which she supposes is to be expected in an experienced rake, who practices seduction as an art and doesn’t understand the Age of Hurry.

Lucinda Elliot was born in England and brought up in a series of isolated country mansions which her parents were renovating (before such a practice became fashionable). Perhaps this is why she writes gothic. She lived and worked in London for many years, and is an awkward so-and-so, currently living in Mid Wales with her family.

A Raven's Touch by Linda Bloodworth

Today we get to see the cover of A Raven's Touch, by Linda Bloodworth.

Who is Linda Bloodworth?
Linda Bloodworth loves chips, like really, ketchup to be exact. Ketchup chips are only found in Canada. Lucky for Linda she lives in Toronto with her husband and three fur babies. In between writing, debating for hours about the Oxford comma, and the misunderstood semi colon; Linda enjoys camping and getting away from the city on day trips.

Synopsis:
Bullied through high school, seventeen-year-old Justice St. Michaels is grateful for the help of her best friend Moira O’Fhey. Their only wish is to graduate high school, leave the sleepy town of Fallingbrook and all that happened behind them. The Heavens have other plans. Between growths on her back and being involved in explosive school fights, nothing seems to make sense. When an unexpected encounter with Darien Raventhorn causes worlds to collide it exposes the truth about who Justice's real identity. To avenge a family death, Justice must embrace her birthright, and slay the demon before all Hell breaks loose.

A Raven's Touch by Linda Bloodworth

What can you expect in A Raven's Touch?
Adventure, friendship, and bit of romance mixed into a very different kind of paranormal story. It's not the formulaic story where there's one type of paranormal hero. Be prepared for Half Angels, Witches, Elves, demons, and a dragon for good measure.

Sample:
       Moira squeezes my arm.
“We need to get up. Come on. We aren’t going to be sitting ducks. He looks like he wants to start trouble.”
My heart starts beating faster and I stand up. Moira has already packed her bag, and she pushes mine into my hands. With her hand on the small of my back, she urges me along.
“It’s a public place, Moira, he won’t hurt us here. He’s all talk, right?”
She looks me in the eyes.

“Don’t underestimate crazy.”
We hear a low wolf howl that causes a ripple of fear to flow through me. I stop momentarily. No way is that for us, surely not.

Review and Release Day for Soul Reapers by Shay West

Blurb:

Detectives Elliot “Eli” Robbins and Ava Aguilar are stumped by a series of seemingly unrelated kidnappings. Utilizing all possible resources, Eli and Ava struggle to find answers despite little physical evidence and few witnesses. When a strange piece of paper is found at one of the crime scenes, it sends Eli and Ava on a chase for a killer who isn’t what he seems.

Review:

I gotta say, anything involving children makes my heart accelerate ten times faster and anxiety of all sorts kick in.  And this is one of those books.  A thriller/suspense, if I have ever read one, Soul Reapers is a dark read that deals with Satanic rituals that involve murder and demon possession.  If you can't read this type of stuff, it's not the book for you.  But, if you're into crime novels and thrillers, you might want to check this one out!  At one point in time I read Dean Koontz and so I enjoyed reading this, but the ending was not what I expected it to be like for some in the book.  The two detectives in this book, Eli and Ava, I feel bad for.  Five years ago they had another paranormal case involving another world in the book Organ Reapers.  Well, now they are dealing with another and don't know it until closer to the end, but the similarities between the cases are forever in the back of their minds.  Not to mention, Eli's neighbor is having all kinds of trouble with sleeping and such since his wife passed.  Ava starts dating him which complicates things since Eli has always had a thing for her but they work together and it is forbidden.  But they find so little each time a child comes up missing that it is very frustrating for the two as they try to track down this person before someone else goes missing. (I would recommend reading Organ Reapers first before this book, but it is not necessary.)

5 out of 5 stars!

Release Day for The Black Rose Chronicles: Torment and Treachery by A.K. Michaels

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of this book before it was released and it delivered!  You've got action to boot, a crazy and very evil super villain in Basilius, your knight-in-shining armor in Cassius, a god trying to keep balance between good and evil, and the ever-awesome Rose.  And we see a very caring side of Rose that is nice to see in a woman who can really kick some butt and utilize whatever necessary in dire situations.  But I have to say, the author outdid herself with Basilius.  He's downright mean and nasty.  King of Hell is an appropriate term for this guy. But I am still rather fond of the god, Kuan.  He is pretty awesome.

Blurb:
Cassius Allarde, probably the most powerful Vampire in existence, finds out how powerless he is when his newly found mate, Rose, is kidnapped. Out of all of Cassius’ vast capabilities inter-realm travelling isn’t one of them. His anger knows no bounds as he realizes the danger Rose is in, and the lengths they’ll have to go to if she has any chance at survival.

Kuan, the mysterious man who purports to be a Chinese God, is the only person who can help them. Cassius assembles a rescue team and they head to the one place he never thought he’d venture: Hell.

Will they reach Rose in time? If they do, will she still be in one piece? Read book 2 in The Black Rose Chronicles to find out.

Hand of Miriam (A Bayla and the Golem Novel) by Eva Gordon

Steampunk, Victorian, with a little mix in of Goth, Hand of Miriam is a mixture of novel I am personally not familiar with, but very much enjoyed reading.  And it even added some supernatural with werewolves, vampires, wraiths, with the main points of interest being angels and demons.

Bayla Gideon is on an archaeological expedition when her husband dies and she is the only survivor to the freak storm that happens.  During this time Bayla is branded with the Hand of Miriam, an all seeing eye that can sense evil and allows her to know the thoughts of others when left uncovered.  Desperate to keep herself alive while creatures ranging from rogue werewolves to demons try to attack her, she awakens the Golem in the archives at her home and frees him from his curse.
In Jewish legend a golem is a clay figure brought to life by magic.
The Golem is named Gesher.  He was a fallen angel that was made into a Golem to serve whoever awakened him.  Because Bayla allows Gesher to destroy the very thing that awakened him, he is now able to change from the scary and imposing clay man into a more normal looking man, although he still has the hardened body of a warrior and has scars where his wings used to be.  Because he fought the angel of death to keep a child from dying in a family that had already lost so much, he was stripped of his wings and sent to Earth as the Golem.  However,  there was the possibility of his returning to Heaven one day should he redeem himself.  That was all good until he went and fell in love with the beautiful, independent, and head strong Bayla Gideon.  Now he must make the decision to either stay on Earth with her or return to Heaven.  Before it had been an easy choice.  Now he found himself thinking he didn't want to live without her.
The Hand of Miriam had not only given her the power to discern evil where it was present, but also the gift of immortality, if she could keep herself alive.  She was not immune to illness or accident.  That is why she needs Gesher, but her feelings for the tall and crazy handsome fallen angel are causing her to want him to stay permanently on Earth.  But she refuses to be the one that keeps an angel on Earth.  Meanwhile, a serial killer is on the loose killing prostitutes within the city and someone is killing female vampires as well.  The killer has been named Jack the Ripper and Bayla starts suspecting that perhaps even one of the Grigori, a secret society which even involves Queen Victoria and all things supernatural, might be the culprit.  She has no idea just how deep it will go and just how in danger she is.  Gesher has his work cut out for him keeping Bayla safe from those that would do her harm.

As I said before, this novel is a very different read from my norm.  But if you like all things paranormal/supernatural, angels and demons type thing, then you should try this book out.  With a hint of spooky and a hot fallen angel, it is sure to keep your attention.  I do find it a very strange element to the story that Bayla has to keep her hand uncovered for the marking to work.  And the fact that it can be fooled as well, it is just very difficult to do so.  But the dirigibles, strange machines, and unconventionality of the story really work for it!
