River,

When I find myself face to face with Lucifer, I realize that what he wants from me could destroy Hell and the world. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for those I love, but I’m not sure I can do what is necessary to stop Lucifer’s plans… even if I’m the only one who can.

Kobal,

As the battle for Hell rages, the line between enemies and allies blurs. To protect River, I will do whatever it takes to destroy Lucifer and reclaim my throne. With Hell torn apart, I know two things for certain, many will perish, and nothing will ever be the same again.

Find out how it all ends in the epic conclusion to The Road to Hell Series.

Review:

This. This book tore me up in places. It was absolutely gut wrenching at times. Full of action and suspense, the last in this particular series will not disappoint! And to be honest, it seems like every hope and possibility that Kobal and River get comes with some terrible consequence or revelation. And there are some serious revelations in this. Be prepared for loss, shock, and amazement!

NEW RELEASE AND REVIEW FOR Carved (Road to Hell Book 2) by Brenda K. Davies

Blurb:

River,
As the perilous journey across a country I’d long thought destroyed begins, I don’t know who I am anymore or what I’m becoming. My abilities grow stronger with each passing day, as does the fear of what comes next. All I know is that I will do anything to avoid becoming like Lucifer, and to protect those I love, even if that means protecting them from me.

Kobal,
No matter what it takes, I will keep River safe, even if my actions end up driving a wedge between us. River is mine to protect, no matter how hard that might be to do now that our journey has begun. I won’t stop until Lucifer is destroyed, won’t stop until I claim my throne, and she will be by my side when I do. It’s all just a matter of keeping her alive until then.

***This Series will follow Kobal and River throughout. Not all things will be resolved in this book. Due to graphic language, violence and sexual content this book is recommended for readers 18+ years of age.***

Review:
This author continues to surprise me. I finished Carved in about 24 hours even though it wasn't really a short novel. I was rather engrossed in the book as River and Kobal's journey progressed further. In this book they leave the relative safety of the wall and start towards the opening to Hell. Unfortunately they encounter some nasty demons and...things along the way. There are human casualties as well as a few humans who are barely keeping it together as they watch the atrocities unfolding. I mean, you've got gargoyles, screaming blood lusty vines, and a creepy angel room. It's no wonder people are losing it. Whereas the first book was not as scary, this one is definitely demon and the pits of Hell oriented. One of my favorite things in this book were the skelleins. They were hilarious and yet kind of creepy. But I would love to see more of them! Can't wait until the next book in the series comes out. I am hooked!

Release Day and Review for Good Intentions (Road To Hell Book 1) by Brenda K Davies

Blurb:

River,

It has been thirteen years since the war started, the bombs were dropped, and the central states became a thing of the past. When the war ended, a wall was erected to divide the surviving states from those destroyed. I never expected to go beyond the wall but unlike all the others who volunteered to go, I wasn’t given a choice.

With a dim knowledge of what I could do, the soldiers came for me. They took me beyond the wall where I learned that the truth is far more terrifying than I’d ever dreamed. Alone, with humans and demons seeking to learn what it is I can do, I find myself irresistibly drawn to the one man I should be avoiding most. One who intrigues and infuriates me. One who is not even a man, not really.

Kobal,

My entire life, I’ve had only one mission, reclaim my throne from Lucifer and put right everything that was torn apart when he was cast from Heaven. It’s a mission I haven’t wavered from, not even when the humans tore open the gates and unleashed Hell on earth.

Now, I’ve never been closer to obtaining my goal yet I find myself risking it all because I cannot stay away from her, a human who may be the key to it all.

***This Series will follow Kobal and River throughout. Not all things will be resolved in this book. Due to graphic language, violence and sexual content this book is recommended for readers 18+ years of age.***

Review:

Once again, this author has gone and created a world that I particularly cannot get enough of!  While demons are something new for her to write about, I feel like she did one heck of a job.  In a story that begins with the earth going into something of a man-made apocalypse, River's life forever changes as things become even harder for her while she tries to care for and provide food for her younger brother, and years later it's for her two little brothers along with her dead beat, useless mother.  River's mother dislikes her to an amount that makes me want to cringe inside.  Really.  None of the fathers of the three children ever stuck around long and it seems that River's father might have just been a drifter.  That is until she is forcibly taken away on volunteer day to work at the wall, where people go to train and fight what they think are other humans.  Boy are they dead wrong on that one.  When they get there, they get a rude awakening that what they are actually fighting are demons coming straight from Hell itself.  Man tore open a hole and now they are wreaking havoc.  Some of the demons want to restore order and get rid of Lucifer, so they are helping the humans.  The main one is Kobal.  He is in charge and looking for a specific person among the humans.  One who has special abilities like River.  While River was taken away forcibly from her family, she finds an ever-growing attraction between her and Kobal.  Things get a little steamy between the two of them when they aren't fighting each other, literally and figuratively.  Loved this read and definitely recommend it!  Can't wait to see more of this series!

The Dracula Chronicles: Bound by Blood by Shane KP O'Neill

Three words: scary as hell.  And there is literally a Hell element to it all since Dracula has become some kind of demon or other.  I had trouble reading because it was scary and downright brutal.  There's a lot of death and now that he has morphed into what we would kind of think of as Dracula, there is a huge body count piling up and he could care less.  When it seems he may have been doing a lot for what he felt was the right thing to do, now it's because he wants to do it.  Murder is now in his blood because Lucifer himself is in his blood.  There is no way to keep from hurting those around him unless they are like him.  He has the ability to turn them into what he is, too.
I personally had a hard time stomaching this one. There's is a certain level of murder and brutality that I just can't take.  Say for instance, on The Walking Dead where Bob was sitting there watching people eat his leg they had just hacked off.  That is too much for me.  And this book has come dangerously close to me putting it down because of too much violence.  It isn't for everyone, that's for sure.  But there is also no denying how well it is written.  It is very well written and holds a certain magnetism to it.  Perhaps it's because of the subject or because the writer was well versed on the subject.  Who knows, but it's there.
The good news is that after you get about 35% through the book, the violence dies down a bit and you see a lot more of the story line unfolding.  It becomes apparent that even some things still bother the now-immortal Dracula.  Loneliness becomes a big issue as well as revenge.  And toying with Lucifer to get what you want is never a good idea.  He makes this clear throughout the book, not just with Dracula but with various other Catholic Church officials who have signed their souls over to him for one reason or another.  It makes it seem like a very corrupt institution.  While it seems like evil is gaining the upperhand, there is still hope yet that rests in Dracula's half brother, Andrei, and his sons.  They have the power to help bring down the evil Lucifer has brought upon the Earth with the turning of Dracula (and a few others who were turned by Dracula instead of Lucifer).
All in all it was a very good book, regardless of the violence in it.  But this is not a book for anyone to read who is under the age of 18.  The content is too graphic and violent for younger ages.  Death is Dracula's business now that he walks in the shadows of the night.  He is the spawn of evil itself and O'Neill weaves that evil into a well-told, gruesome tale.

The Soulkeepers (Book 1) by GP Ching

In a very different novel about angels, good and evil, and the fall of Satan, GP Ching unravels a new story about a 15-year-old boy named Jacob who has just lived the worst nightmare possible.  The problem is that he still thinks it's a dream; some horrific nightmare his mind has made up because of what he has been through.  His mother is missing and he is in the hospital injured.  They found him in his mom's car, behind the wheel, while the only sign of his mom being at the scene was her blood.  Jacob's uncle John, whom he didn't know existed, shows up at the hospital to tell him that Jacob has to come home with him.  Having no other choice, he moves to the tiny town that John lives in.  Everyone knows everyone and they all have family roots in this town.  Most of their families had been there for generations.  All except for Malini and her family.  She becomes Jacob's only friend.  Although John tries, he has a hard time getting close to Jacob.  Jacob's Aunt and cousin both seriously dislike him and it shows.  He's treated as an outsider everywhere he goes.  It all comes to a head one day when he goes off on his cousin for calling him names.  In a fit of rage, he bashes her prized dolls that are worth lots of money.  One of the heads happen to fly into the stained glass window of the neighbor across from their house.  To pay off his debt, Jacob has to start working for the strange Dr. Silva.  He helps her with gardening and it is tough work.  While working for Dr. Silva, he also discovers her secret garden full of exotic and scary plants, along with Oswald, the tree that can transport you to different places in the world.  To make everything extra strange, Jacob discovers that he has abilities when it comes to water.  In light of all that has happened, Dr. Silva admits she is here to be his Helper and he is a Soulkeeper.  He keeps souls safe from the evil ones, the fallen angels.  Even though he doesn't even believe in God, Jacob has his part to play in the war of good vs. evil.  But his main concern right now?  Find his mom.

The weird in this book is off the wall.  Most of the things about this book are strange at best.  But that is what makes it so intriguing.  Who wouldn't be interested in a creepy transporting tree that grew from Dr. Silva's dead husband's burial plot?  Not to mention flowers that like blood, the secret of who Dr. Silva really is, where Jacob's mother really is, and more.
One thing we don't find out much about is exactly what part Malini plays in all of this.  Yes we know she is his one and only friend and that during the book their relationship becomes more than friendship, but Malini has her own secrets which you will find out more about in the second book.  Which you should check out if you read the first!
