Blurb:
After two years of being alone, keeping death at bay by sheer will, Makayla isn't sure if she was fit for humanity, much less a young girl and two teen boys.
At 19 she's seen and done things that would make your blood curdle and survived it all with the aid of her Dad's Glock, a sawed-off shotgun, her katana and the skills she learned from her Dad. But, as the days pass life is breaking her down.
Will Makayla survive the Earth that had been left or will she fall prey to what hides in the shadows?
Review:
This is one quick paced, possibly terror inducing, zombie book. If you are looking for something with gore, this is it. Mak is a young woman constantly on the run from not only zombies, but other survivors as well. The world has become a very dangerous place to live in now that is has been repopulated with flesh eaters. Some of them are falling apart, and some of them are what the author calls "freshies". Now, just the name alone sounds disgusting to me, and they are. These things are gross and nasty. But Mak can handle a lot of things. In fact, she often tries to take on the whole world by herself without asking for the help of others. She doesn't want anyone to get hurt unless it's her. Mak is the type to want to try and save the whole world if she can, which I admire her for. She's also very good with her weapons. And she is on a long journey to find her best friend. On that journey though, she encounters a few bumps in the road: zombies, survivors willing to rape and kill others, and survivors needing help from her. Because of her willingness to help those who need it, she finds herself with a little band of survivors all traveling with her. Some of them are just kids. But in this world, they have to grow up fast and learn how to protect themselves. And Mak has to learn to rely on others she can trust. I have to say, there were some times in this book I was holding my breath. And if you're looking for a happy ending, you won't find it here. It's the zombie apocalypse people! Let's be realistic. But....there will be another book, and I am anxious to see what happens next.
5 out of 5 stars!
