New Release and Review for The Carmichaels: Complete Set Charlotte Penn Clark

The Carmichaels: Complete Set
Charlotte Penn Clark

Blurb:

Rich. Smart. Beautiful. Talented. And they even get along. Mostly.
The five Carmichael sisters lucked out in the game of life, but their privilege doesn't protect them from heartbreak. Read all five contemporary romance novellas newly revised and together for the first time!

CORINNE wants her independence, but when tragedy strikes her family she relies on her new French boyfriend for support.
Headstrong DAISY goes after what she wants as a financial journalist, but the guy she wants keeps her at arm's length.
VALERIE, still shaken by past trauma, is surprised when her feelings for her E.R. doctor grow beyond friendship.
MARIE is just getting started as a sportswriter so she really shouldn't fall for her first subject, the newly-drafted quarterback.
SAMANTHA has crushed on her college advisor for a year but now that she's about to graduate maybe she finally has a shot with him.

Review:
This complete set of novellas is a pretty easy read and each book doesn't take too much time either, which is great for me! There are 5 Carmichael sisters and they were born into a very privileged family. Dad is a Senator who decides to run for president. Honestly, I didn't expect the first book to go the way it did. And this may be a bit of a spoiler but frankly the other four books are built off of this one big freak accident: their parents die in an accident. Much of the other books revolve not only around their relationships with the men in their lives, but dealing with loss and how to keep the family close. Each daughter brings a different dynamic to the family and I loved how close they were even though they were living so far apart. I wasn't really a big fan of Corinne, the oldest. And each book ended kind of abruptly. But together they make a very good set!  4 out of 5 stars!

New Release: Smoke And Sin by Shayla Black and Lexi Blake

New York Times Best Selling Authors Shayla Black and Lexi Blake invite you back into a world of passion and scandal. More than a decade ago, Roman Calder had a scorching affair with the sister of one of his best friends. Augustine Spencer drove him so crazy he thought of nothing but her. The only thing they did more often than heat the sheets was fight. Unprepared for the intensity of their relationship, Roman broke things off and concentrated on things that made sense to him: his career and putting his best friend, Zack Hayes, in the White House. Gus Spencer is known to Washington insiders as the president’s secret weapon. Gorgeous and brilliant, Gus runs the press pool with the determination of a shark. No one dares to cross her, not when she’s known for having a spine of steel…but long ago one man melted her down. Despite the fact that she’ll never forgive Roman for breaking her heart, now that they work together she can’t get him off her mind. When a dangerous investigation leads both Roman and Gus to London, the heat between them becomes unbearable. As they begin to unravel an international conspiracy, they find themselves falling all over again. But when a killer threatens their world, can they fight to stay together or will the sins of their past keep them forever apart?

Young couple flirting with legs at the restaurant under the table

Release Date: August 16, 2016

Synopsis
Sex. Lies. Greed. Power. Scandal. Politics. Political strategist, Elizabeth McNeal has been called a lot of things throughout her career—bitch being at the top of the list—but she doesn’t let it get to her. She’s bold, she’s blunt, and she takes orders from no one. This is how she’s survived working in a man’s world. She’s the master of diversion, and her specialty is winning an election—no matter the cost. That is, until she meets her new client, Democratic candidate, Congressman William Baxter. Kind, considerate, insanely handsome, honest, and ten years her junior, he’s a unicorn among politicians. He infuriates her. He challenges her. Most of all, he makes her see past the scandalous world of politics and helps her to discover the heart of the woman inside her. With sparks flying between them and the election rapidly approaching, the last thing either of them need is to be caught in a compromising position. Some lines are meant to be crossed and some rules broken, but for Elizabeth and Liam is it worth the cost of being politically incorrect?

Review

William Baxter might be my new favorite book character. I love that he is a pretty much unknown, but honest, politician running for a seat on the Senate. Not only that but he's super hot and very alpha male. The bickering between him and Elizabeth through so much of the book would normally turn me off of the story, but it only added more character to this one. It wasn't just a bunch of squabbling. Many times you would see them arguing over doing something that Liam would think wasn't right in the moral sense while Elizabeth was saying do it, or over how much of a secret to keep their relationship. Man, the tension between the two can be felt clear through the pages. I really liked Elizabeth's character too though. She's the strong, independent woman who doesn't need a man to define who she is and she's comfortable in her own skin. She is a power character and really brings her game face. Another fantastic book by the author!

Imagine what you would do if The Zombie Apocalypse, a long time favorite topic of authors in the Zombie genre, finally happened? Would you be prepared at all and have a chance to survive or would you be unprepared and quickly die or become a Zombie?

This book is the first of three that I plan to write for this series. It tracks the travels of myself and 3 friends as we attempt to escape the Zombie apocalypse. Our journey begins in Southern Illinois, in a town named Carbondale. We travel across the country attempting to reach Elysium, which one of the larger safe havens in the United States. Along the way we meet new friends and attempt to dispose of new enemies.

The apocalypse was caused by a combination of factors. One was our government allowed people with the Nova Virus to come to our country to get help. We are still the only country that allows that. Second, a corrupt (Are there any others?) mega corporation that was given a huge government contract to perfect a vaccine to cure the Nova Virus allowed the vaccines to become contaminated. Millions of people took the vaccine and I think the reader will figure out what happened as a result of the contamination.

It is very hard to keep politics out of Zombie books, so I do not try to. I express my opinions as I see things as do the other characters in the book. Please keep in mind that this book is a work of fiction.

All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.
