Review:

A fascinating end to the Starlight Series! I'm not even sure where to start besides that Sloane is a trouble magnet like no other. How one girl can unintentionally cause so much havoc is beyond me. But the love she and Hayden share is the real deal and because of it, Sloane is constantly in danger from one person or another, or a whole group of people. It's like a series of very unfortunate events. It is nice to read how much she wanted the approval of Hayden's parents. The trip to Reticuli goes from vacation from Earth to even more hazardous than being back on her home planet. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Fright Night Babble interspersed throughout the book. It lends real character to the book and enhances Sloane's character further. This book also goes to show just how deeply words can hurt others. The nasty things said really get to Sloane for a while and in reality that's what happens when people put others down. It's a good lesson in not doing that to others and another in not listening to those that make you doubt your own self-worth. The only thing about the book? There was something that happened with her powers which was not really explored further and I sure wish it had been. Otherwise, it was a great read!

First World (A Walker Saga Book 1) by Jaymin Eve

   Abigail Swish is about to be 18.  She can't wait either.  Right now she's stuck taking all kinds of survival classes, regular educational classes, and learning how to fight in various ways and with different weapons.  She lives in a world where stepping outside is a dangerous affair.  New York is no longer what it was.  The people that are left either live in compounds, are military, or Gangers.  She lives in one of the rebel compounds.  A very long time ago she was dropped there and left alone in the world.  No one knows who her parents are.  She became best friends with a girl named Lucy and they were planning on their next step after turning 18 because they would no longer be staying at the compound.  They both know that Olden, the woman in charge, is not to be trusted.  If only there was somewhere like it used to be, like they learn about in their classes.  Not anymore.  The only beautiful green world full of lush plants lives in Abby's dreams.
   By pure accident, one day Abby happens upon a man who claims to be her Watcher, the one who protects her.  She always wondered how she was so lucky on the streets.  Perhaps this is why.  But who is he?  When she and Lucy go back out to find him for answers, Abby accidentally disappears and finds herself in her dream world, except that it feels like she is really there.  When she goes back, Lucy confirms that she had disappeared into thin air.  Abby desperately wants to find this place and ends up getting help from the mystery man.  It is a very real place.  In fact, it's a whole other world that is much like Earth, but these inhabitants have powers.  And Abby is not who she thought she was.  She is very much a part of this world.  And she is very special.  Josian and Lallielle are not ordinary parents.  Lallielle is the equivalent of royalty and Josian is the equivalent of a god.  Technically they weren't even supposed to be able to have children, but here Abby is as proof.  Abby is half Walker, which means she can travel to different worlds at will.  It may take a little time, but she can do it.  After finding this wonderful world, with hot men may I add, she finds out that there is an evil out there trying to destroy all of the worlds, including this one and Earth.  Unfortunately she has to be the one to stop it.


   What an intriguing read!  I like the whole Walker idea and how they are like gods in a way.  At the same time, they all have very human problems it seems like.  It was cool how Abby just kind of fell into this new world while falling into Brace, the hot guy, too.  He is stone faced and hard to read at times, but his feelings go deeper than what the characters think.  He has been in Abby's dreams for a while now along with Lallielle, her mother.  Unfortunately, he tries hard to keep her at arms length.  Lucy, however, thinks Abby should go for what she wants.  She's always the life of the party.
   I had several questions that went unanswered in this book, but it is only the first one of several so I am thinking maybe they will be answered later on.  It wouldn't be much of a series if everything was given away immediately.  While Jaymin Eve doesn't show us her full hand just yet, I do look forward to reading more of her books!  And the cover for this book is really rockin!  Love it!

   Raffin was a half breed: half Raffulan and half human, living on Earth..  He had to hide himself from the outside world because he looked nothing like a human.  He had charcoal colored skin, dark hair, blood red eyes, and clawed fingers.  Although his father was Raffulan, they did not share the same traits.  The red eyes and the claws that extended, holding an infection within them, had only ever belonged to one other and that was Salcon.  He had turned evil and craved power.  But he had been destroyed long ago.  Unfortunately, Raffin had to struggle every day with wanting the life force of others.  That energy called to him and he could easily take it, killing the person he took it from.  Raffin also had to deal with nightmares every single night. They were dreams of war, torture, and murder.  Dreams seen through the eyes of Salcon himself.
   When Raffin started his last year of high school, he was also starting a new school.  Because of what he and his dad were, their family moved around a lot.  His mother wanted him to have more of a normal life and make friends.  It wasn't about the actual learning process.  Raffin was far ahead of everyone at school, including the teachers.  Most humans had no idea how many other worlds there were out there and that some of their inhabitants lived on Earth.
   And then there was Ari.  They both tumbled into each other on the running track at school and she had stuck to him like glue.  He just couldn't shake this girl.  And the more time they spent together, the less he really wanted to.  Turns out that Ari isn't really human either.  She is a half breed as well, but has never shown any signs of being anything other than human.  But one fateful day just the two of them hit the beach and end up marking each other as mates.  They were meant to be together.  The bad news?  Ari's less human side finally shows and she is a Nave, basically enemies of the Raffulan.  And not just any Nave, she is an heir to the throne on Navea.  As if it isn't bad enough that he wants her life force because she is the perfect source of energy to Raffin, he also finds out that his father is Salcon.
   Raffin, Ari, and their families take a necessary journey to Navea where circumstances force Raffin and Ari to complete their bond.  Their life forces now combined, Raffin can contain his want of Ari's energy.  But he has much bigger problems.  His biggest enemy is himself.  Raffin is battling within himself to not become his father.  With the help of Ari and her family, he is slowly beginning to realize that there is good within himself.  If he is going to be the man that Ari needs him to be, he must tame the black beast within.


   The hardest struggle most of us have is within ourselves.  The world around us could be burning down and it would still pale in comparison to the war within ourselves.  This was the world of Raffin Tys.  His actual father had been a mad man and he had been raised with the lie that the man who lived with him was his real father.  This man had loved him like a father, but even he never knew that Raffin was Salcon's son.  In fact, hardly anyone knew that Salcon even had a son.  With the nightly torture of watching Salcon killing and laying waste in his dreams, it made Raffin wonder just how bad he was going to become.  He never wanted to be like that.  But during the book Raffin is forced into a series of very uncomfortable circumstances that makes everyone around him confident that he will be a great (and good) man, but Raffin is still not very convinced.  If nothing else, he must become the man he needs to be for Ari and their future children.  Excellent book!  Can't wait to see what challenges are ahead for Raffin and Ari!
