Review for My Duke's Desire (Wicked Lords of London #4) by Tammy Andresen

My Duke's Desire
Wicked Lords of London Book 4
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:

Lady Violette knew two things for certain. She must make an advantageous match to save her family and the lord who agreed would be less than desirable. It didn’t matter that she wished to sail off on a great adventure. It wasn’t her choice to make.

His Grace, The Duke of Waverly, had no intention marrying, no matter what his mother expected. That was one of the few advantages of being a duke and he’d sailed back from Barbados to inform her. On his journey home, however, a beautifully proper lady rescues him when his horse is injured. He can’t help but notice that Lady Violette is in need of rescuing herself. Much as she tempts him, he can’t be the man that saves her.

Review:
Theo is definitely no ordinary Englishman. He’s about to go and face the music about his duties as the duke of the area. And he’s not a willing one. I thought it was funny that he looked like such a wild rogue with his beard and tanned skin. So...scraggly according to the time and place. And he happens upon the Lady Violette on his way home. Funny thing is they are going the same way. But she is more than just a social climber. She has her family to care for since her father is no longer there to. And he left them in a bad situation. But she is quite a character. She’s willing to give up her whole life by marrying someone who might not care at all about her. Just to ensure her family’s future. I found her a very strong and wonderful character. I liked Theo too, but he needed a little settling. Great read!  5 out of 5 stars!

Review for Scottish Devil by Tammy Andresen

Scottish Devil
Brethren of Stone Book 1

Tammy Andresen

Blurb:

One family united by loss, driven to find love…

Known as the devil, Stone Sinclair, Earl of Alban, is carved of rock, hard and uncompromising. He bends for no man. A fiery lass with golden hair and a will as strong as his own? Surrender has never sounded sweeter.

Eliza McLaren detests all lairds. They are selfish, self-serving, arrogant men who only care for themselves and build their fortunes on the backs of their people. And Lord Stone Alban is the worst of the lot. When her father attempts to make a match between them, Eliza pledges to never give herself to a man like Stone, no matter how tempting his lips or how strong his arms. He isn’t the only one carved of stone.

After the death of their parents, six siblings unite around their eldest brother, Stone. They consider blood a binding oath and vow to protect one another. They all must face their own demons as they find love and their places in the world.

Review:
You know, at first I didn’t really like Eliza. She seemed judgmental and prickly. In fact, i thought she was kind of prickly the first time I read about her, but the more I read about her story, the more I liked her. She had her reasons and was very remorseful for thinking how she did about Stone. And Stone, well he obviously needs a woman’s touch to soften things up a bit. Some men are just intimidating and he’s one of them, just like his father was. I loved every minute of their love story. And I can’t wait to read more in this new series. 5 out of 5 stars!

Review for The Duke's Scottish Lass by Tammy Andresen

The Duke's Scottish Lass
Tammy Andresen

 Blurb:

Lady Delia Alban absolutely cannot marry the handsome rake, Roderick Maddox, fourth Duke of Manchester, despite her brother Stone’s insistence she do just that. Though he has long reformed his ways, he steals her breath away every time their eyes meet and she simply doesn’t deserve that kind of happiness. Not after the death of her brother, Reginald. She must pay penance, because, if not for her, he would still be alive.

Roderick Maddox, has known for years he would marry Delia. Before Reginald’s death, he made a promise to his friend, not only would he care for Reginald’s sister, but he would reform himself into the type of man Delia deserved. He never expected Delia to ignite such passion or to be so resistant to him. Nor did he realize he held the secret about Reginald’s death that could crush their budding feelings forever.

Review:
It’s a match made in heaven, or more like one made by her brother. Delia’s brother wanted a match between she and Reginald’s best friend, Roderick. The very day they meet for the first time, a horrible tragedy happens. It’s one that the whole family has a hard time getting past. The eldest brother and Delia blame their selves for what happens and there is a kind of break down in communication between the two as well. Top it off with the fact that she doesn’t want to remember what happened that day and it makes for a difficult time for Roderick, whose bent on seeing this through and marrying her. But not just because Reginald wanted it. Turns out Delia’s brother knew what he was doing though. I thoroughly enjoyed reading their story and the struggles they faced. It was a very sweet read!

New Release & Review for My Earl's Entrapment (Wicked Lords of London 3) by Tammy Andresen

My Earl's Entrapment
Wicked Lords of London 3
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:

Lord William Addington has been forced into retirement as one of the Prince Regent's domestic spies. But he still has one case to solve while attending a house party when an adorably feisty lady enters him room in the middle of the night. He now has another delicious mystery on his hands. Why is Lady Roselyn Pennington snooping about?

Rose is sure Lord Addington is a dullard at best and a criminal mastermind at worst. So why does her heart beat so rapidly every time he is near? And why does he rescue when she insists on landing herself into trouble time and again? It’s as though he isn’t the man everyone thinks he is or even the one he claims to be.

Review:
I love this author’s books. This was another short and sweet with a side of spice and suspense. It was a good blend and I enjoyed it quite a bit! Will has basically ruined his reputation with the ton in order to protect himself. His dealings are of a very delicate nature and to be discovered would be the end of it all and could be quite dangerous. Then there’s Rose. She comes along and sees right through the guise. I love her wits and willingness to go above and beyond. She’s got some real spunk to her and isn’t just a pretty ornament for some man. They’re a good match and I loved reading their love story! 5 out of 5 stars!

Whatever was in the tree certainly didn’t belong there. Snatches of brown stood out among the green leaves. A few more feet closer and he concluded the intruder in the tree was of the human variety, most likely a boy. Why wasn’t the youngster in school?
Dugan moved directly beneath the tree and looked up. A grin spread across his face and his eyebrows rose toward the brim of his hat. The person in the tree might be dressed like a boy, but with a curvy backside like that, and a long tendril of wavy brown hair escaping the cap tugged on their head, he had no doubt he was staring up at a woman.
But what woman would wear britches and climb trees? This one shimmied up to a branch where he could see a bird’s nest close to the end of it. She straddled the branch and inched her way forward.
The only female he could think of who’d do such a thing was on a train heading east. Wasn’t she?
When the woman stretched out on a limb, trying to get a better view into a bird’s nest, he caught a glimpse of her profile and sucked in a breath.
“Delilah?” he asked in baffled wonderment.
The woman gasped as she whipped her head around to look at him. She lost her grip on the branch and would have fallen if she hadn’t quickly regained her composure and wrapped her arms around the branch.
“What in Sam Hill are you doing up there?” Dugan shifted so he could get a better look at her face.

Afternoon sunshine illuminating the clear blue sky made her tip back her head to soak up the glorious rays spilling through a missing section of the porch roof. The tang of approaching spring mingled with the yeasty aroma of baking bread and the mouth-watering smell of roasting meat in the air. A slight breeze, redolent with the mixture of scents, caressed the tendrils of her hair that had escaped the confines of the once-tidy chignon she’d hastily fashioned early that morning.
At least the pleasant weather was one thing working in Baker City’s favor. In spite of the house’s disorderly status, she would greatly enjoy spring days in the area if today was any indication of what the future held. She pushed the cape from her shoulders, closed her eyes, and relaxed against the chair, enjoying the peaceful moments before her father returned.
“Maybe this place won’t be all bad,” she whispered, allowing her grip on her father’s bag to loosen.
“Baker City tends to grow on most folks, if you give it a chance,” a deep voice said, startling her from her musings.
Her eyes snapped open in surprise. Pride straightened her spine as her glance settled on a man standing a few yards away on the winter-browned grass on the other side of the porch railing.
Sunlight glinted off a shiny silver badge pinned to the front of a long duster. She studied the black western-style hat on his head, similar to those she’d seen cowboys sporting on the train. The lawman wore a tan flannel shirt topped with a dark vest and a neckerchief the color of crocuses. Dark blue denims encased muscled legs while dust covered the toes of his worn boots.
Slowly, her gaze glided from his boots back up to his face. A square jaw covered in a rakish growth of stubble, firm lips, and a straight nose proved to be a handsome combination. But it wasn't.

New Release & Review! My Duke's Deception (Wicked Lords of London #2) by Tammy Andresen

My Duke's Deception
(Wicked Lords of London #2)
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:
A mysterious man saves her life but can he save her heart?

Lady Eleanor McIntyre has been forgotten by society, unloved and left to ruin by her father. But just when she is at her lowest, she crosses paths with a mysterious man who saves her life. It is like a miracle but even more shocking is that he needs her help to find his lost sister.

Lord Matthew Evans, the Duke of Pennington, has an excellent reason for hiding his title from the lovely Ella. The only woman he had ever loved cared far more about his position than she ever did the man. Ella is too beautiful to be trusted with the knowledge he is a duke. But the longer he knows her, the more he wishes he hadn’t deceived her. Because as pure as her heart is, she could surely never love a man who lied about his identity.

Review:
Another short but very sweet book by this author! I truly feel for Ella. Her circumstances are dire and because of her father’s debts, she is left with absolutely nothing to survive on. Matthew has everything he could want, but his past has scarred his heart and he’s suspicious of women and their possible intentions. Neither had a good father figure growing up and that plays a large role in things as well. I loved the orphanage scene!

New Release and Review! My Laird's Seduction by Tammy Andresen

My Laird's Seduction
(A Laird to Love #4)
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:
Lady Ainsley McDougal has long been the bell of the ball. But there is one beau she cannot tame, which, of course, is her favorite kind. She'll catch her man yet.

Laird James McPherson is a Highland Laird, an English Earl, a soldier of the Indian War, and a privateer for the British Navy simply for the joy of it. He'll be damned before one tiny blond spitfire of a Scottish lass brings him to his knees and ties him down in wedlock. But even he can't deny that he's tempted...

Review:
Of all the books I have read by this author, this one might have pulled at my heart strings the most. James's story is so sad and full of people who were supposed to love him, treating him badly. Because of that, it just breaks him inside and that moment in the hall with Ainsley after she was singing to the baby really got to me. I have children and cannot imagine a child growing up how he did. The love the two of them find helps heal him and it changed her for the better as well. I can't say enough good things about their story. And it started out so different than the ending! I didn't even like James at first, but my mind was changed! It's a wonderful read!

New Release & Review for My Duke's Seduction by Tammy Andresen

My Duke's Seduction
Wicked Lords of London #1
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:

Can her gentle tenacity unlock a duke’s heart?

Lady Tricia Riley is the sweet daughter of a duke until her family's ailments force her to breech societies’ dictates and go where no lady should… the docklands. When a tall, strong and handsome stranger helps to keep her safe, she agrees to keep their meeting, secret. She’s no interest in marrying a tall and darkly handsome stranger. Actually, she has no intention of marrying at all. Instead, she plans to dedicate herself to charitable pursuits.

Ryker Pembroke, Duke of Landon, will marry eventually, as duty requires him to do. But it is a fate, he regards with a certain amount of dread. That is, until an auburn haired minx bursts into his life. Her warmth, charm and giving nature draws him to her even as he attempts to maintain a safe distance. She is entirely wrong for him with her impulsive nature and blatant disregard for her own safety makes her a terrible choice for a wife… doesn’t it?

This is a stand-alone romance with a lovely HEA! The heroine does appear in the Earl of Sussex: Wicked Earls' Club. And the books that follow will all be connected with the Earl of Sussex and his lovely bride, Tabbie.

Review:
Oh Ryker might be my new book boyfriend. He's titled, and I mean titled. He has plenty of money. Very handsome. Single. And did I mention that he's not much for your standard debutante? And protective. That's some serious attractiveness, so I can see why in the book he doesn't like social occasions. The women would absolutely drown him in an effort to attempt to garner his attention. Instead, a woman who doesn't seem to know how to keep her reputation intact is who draws his attention. Tricia is a good woman. She cares deeply for others, including orphans. She has a natural mother instinct. And she has no regard for her reputation when it comes to caring for and keeping her family safe. I loved their story and love the title of the series!

Review for Captain of My Heart (Heroes of the Sea Book 2) by Danelle Harmon

Captain of My Heart
(Heroes of the Sea Book 2)
Danelle Harmon

Blurb:

He wanted no woman, except one made of sails and wood and wind ...

Handsome, wily Irish privateer Captain Brendan Jay Merrick is running from a painful past -- and fighting for a new nation's future when he arrives in the colonial town of Newburyport, Massachusetts, with plans for shipwright Ephraim Ashton to build his magnificent new schooner. Brendan's daring sea battles against His Majesty's fleet have made him a legend in his adopted country -- but one look at the dashing stranger and Ashton's daughter Mira starts making plans of her own. . . .

She wanted no man -- but him.

Brash, hot-tempered, and born at sea in a raging gale, Mira Ashton is more than most men can manage. Disguising herself as a crew member and sneaking aboard Brendan's newly-built Kestrel, she becomes the schooner's finest gunner . . . and the captain's most outrageous distraction. As desire ignites between them, Mira finds herself competing against Kestrel for Brendan's love. But when tragedy strikes, Mira must join forces with her mighty rival in a daring adventure that turns the tide of battle and brings glorious victory to the colonists, the captain . . . and the lady who has captured his heart.

Review:
This was a lovely book. The scenery is wonderfully described and while reading it I could easily picture the ships out at sea and the men in the rigging. Captain Merrick was quite a character. His confidence was endearing and I found the fact that he likes to sketch out battles between ships (during battle) quite intriguing. It took quite a bit of time for him and Mira to actually get together and sometimes that can can cause someone to lose interest because of such a long wait, but not in this book. Their relationship is quite interesting from the very beginning. Mira is as much part of the sea as Merrick is. The book itself was much longer than what I normally read, but I very much enjoyed it!

New Release and Review for: A Scot's Surrender (A Laird to Love #3) by Tammy Andresen

A Scot's Surrender
(A Laird to Love #3)
Tammy Andresen

Blurb:
An innocent debutante and a rogue...

Miss Agnes Faulkenberry dreams of a gentleman, a knight in shining armor that sweeps her off her feet. Laird Keiran McKenna is nothing like her dreams. A rogue and sworn bachelor, she finds him irritating, when he isn't causing her breathless excitement. The more time she spends with him, the more the line between knight and rogue blurs. Not that it matters, because he'd never love her in return would he?

Review:
Agnes is such a sweet person. She is loving and caring and everything Kieran thinks he shouldn't want. But the joy she possesses is hard to stay away from, especially when they're staying under the same roof for a time. The only problem is that she has a certain idea of what gentlemen should be like, and Kieran doesn't fit in that box. But he carries wounds and scars of his own. And he's slowly shattering those preconceptions she has. I loved watching the romance between these two. The fact that the two don't completely get along is nice because it's realistic since all relationships have hurdles they must get over. It's a shorter read, but a great one!

New Release & Review for A Husband for Hire by Patricia A Knight

Book: A Husband for Hire
Author: Patricia A. Knight
Release Date: 31st January
Genre: A Regency Historical Romance
Add to your TBR: Goodreads #AHusbandforHireTour
Synopsis:
Lady Eleanor Russell needed a husband. Immediately. With no male heir, when her father died, the vast family estate would revert to the Crown. But no man would choose an unattractive, outspoken, independent, spinster of mature years as a bride—so she’d buy a husband. An impoverished third son of aristocratic birth, Lord Miles Everleigh, tall, elegant and immensely handsome, relied on wealthy widows to clothe, house and feed him. In exchange, they received a charming, accomplished companion, both in and out of the bedroom. But this lifestyle wore away a man’s self-respect; he was not the male whore his step-brother had named him. When Eleanor “bought” Miles as a husband, she never intended to lose her heart. When he accepted her proposal, Miles never imagined he’d want more from Eleanor than her money.

Review:
I truly enjoy reading historical romance books involving "unconventional" women who just don't conform to society's norms and expectations. This book is no different in that respect. I enjoyed reading about the budding relationship between Eleanor and Miles. He goes from the husband she bought to keep her family's estate and all that, to something much more. I did expect there to be more involvement of the agent to the Crown than there was. This book seemed to revolve more around Eleanor and Miles's relationship. Eleanor is a strong female, although kind of lonely. She and Miles have some things in common although their plights are different. All in all, it was a nice feel-good book, and one where I would love to know more about Eleanor's best friend.
4 out of 5 stars!

Chapter One
London, late February 1814
“T
hese are the best marital prospects you can discover? In all of London?”
The Lady Eleanor Constance Russell, sole offspring of The Right Honorable Earl of Rutledge and The Right Honorable Countess of Rutledge slapped the sheet of paper she’d been reading down on top of the mahogany desk and bestowed on her London barrister the look of a woman at her wit’s end. Grief for her dying parents and a sense of utter desperation had driven her to actions she considered borderline insanity. If she accepted any of the names on this list, she might as well rent rooms in Bedlam. Eleanor fought the hysteria surging in her breast and tried for a more cajoling tone. “Surely you can come up with more worthy candidates?”
The barrister who had served her family for the last forty years sat immobile in his great chair, hunkered down behind his great desk, his hands steepled in front of his narrow-lipped mouth. “This was no small task you set before me, Lady Russell. We are at war with France. Many of our most eligible men fill our army and navy.”
Her troubled gaze swung outward. Outside the windows of Elsington & Elsington, the London hansom cabs clopped past in the traffic-clogged street. Everyone had business to conduct it seemed. With a heavy sigh, she returned to the issue that had torn her away from the bedside of her failing but beloved parents and the celebrated stud farm into which she’d poured twenty-plus years of her life.
Her eyes flicked to the sheet in front of her, and she jabbed at it with an index finger.  “Sir Clive Wellery. Fifty-six years of age, just interred his fourth wife, has no property of worth, eleven dependents ranging in age from two months to twenty-two years, known for a propensity to overindulge in spirits and gambling, currently renting a six-bedroom house in Bloomsbury.” She shuddered and whispered, “Eleven children.”  Her eyes rose and gazed at the gentleman across the desk from her then dropped back to the paper.
“Lord Hilary Vance. Sixty-four years of age, of no property or spouse. No dependents, an unfortunate victim of the ‘China disease.’”  She cleared her throat. “I understand there is no opium den he does not frequent.”
The barrister sat motionless in his chair and gave her a disapproving frown. She rolled her eyes. “I am thirty-years-old, sir. I’m not an ignorant debutante.”
“I disapprove of your unorthodox education, Ma’am. It did you a great disservice, and so I told your father.”
You old fusspot. Eleanor swallowed her retort and returned her gaze to the page on the desk. “And then there is Sir Aubrey Dedham… really, Mr. Elsington? Really? The fellow lives at the molly houses.” She frowned as her barrister stirred awkwardly in his high-backed chair. “Did you think I didn’t know the meaning of the term? How am I supposed to persuade a sodomite into marriage with a woman when he is not inclined toward women in the first place?” She scowled. “Though perhaps my possessing no feminine attributes is a recommendation.”
“Lady Russell, please…”
Eleanor held up a gloved hand. “Stop. I know what you are going to say. £30,000 will make any man blind. And this last entry.” She sighed and relaxed her upright spine for one moment before resuming her erect posture and folding her hands in her lap. “This last marital candidate.” She could feel the heat climb her neck into her cheeks at the thought of a man that elegant ever giving her a second look and if he did… she’d probably turn and flee.
“The Lord Miles Everleigh, twenty-five, the third of four sons, whose eldest brother is the new Duke of Chelsony. I understand Lord Miles lives on the charity of “friends” in return for his convivial companionship and educated guidance on the purchase of fine bloodstock. What could induce…”
She closed her eyes and fought back the tears that threatened. How had she come to this? Was she going to go through with an action that in her more rational moments caused her to lose the contents of her stomach? In short, yes. The alternative was even more appalling.
One thought of the manor house with its 100,000 acres of attached properties and villages all peopled with men and women who relied on her family for their livelihood... the thought of all this reverting to the Crown because of some quirk in the laws of primogeniture? Accompanying the loss would be the upheaval and complete displacement of the lovely Thoroughbred mares and stallions of impeccable breeding whose pedigrees she could recite to the nth generation and all their offspring, in short, the entire racing stud she’d helped her father make so fabulously successful. Well, it was enough to make anyone cry.
Despite having three torturous seasons on the marriage mart ten years ago, no eligible man—there’d been numerous made ineligible by virtue of being unacceptable to her parents or unacceptable to her—had stepped forward with an offer to make her his wife. All the wealth and property she would bring with her was insufficient incentive to overcome her plain features, awkward deportment and utter lack of the slightest feminine attribute, so… she’d have to buy a husband—and soon. With no male heir, upon the death of her father, the estate, and all its entailed properties would be subject to the peregrinations of escheat.
“Mr. Elsington…please. What could possibly recommend me to Lord Miles Everleigh? Even rusticating as I have been, I hear the on-dits about the ever-so-handsome and sophisticated Lord Miles Everleigh. There will always be other options for a man like this, much better options than a gawky plank of an ape-leader with shriveled social skills who reeks of the stables and is his senior by five years.”
The man across from her cleared his throat. “My lady…if I may be allowed…” He looked over his pince-nez. “The marriage agreement that you have required me to draw up demands a gentleman of a certain …” He shifted uncomfortably. “Ah…”
“Let me assist you. The word you want is desperation. It wants a gentleman who has reached a point of desperation. Well, Mr. Elsington, find more candidates. This week. I’m running out of time.”
“Err, yes, Lady Russell. Quite.” His eyes softened. “How is your father, my lady?”
Eleanor dropped her eyes and fought for composure until she was sure she could speak without succumbing to tears. “The physicians tell me, ‘at most a few months’. He could go at any time.”
“My sincere regrets, ma’am. Lord Rutledge is a fine gentleman.”
With a murmur of thanks, she inhaled and rose to her full height. Mr. Elsington was not a short man, but as he stood to escort her out, she topped him by a full head, reminding her yet again of her abysmal lack of any physical feature possessed by an even a moderately desirable woman. She hardened her jaw as she marched out of the law offices to her waiting carriage. There was no point in dwelling on a source of immense hurt that her adoring parents and formidable fortune hadn’t protected her from, nor the reasons for her present desperate action. She decided on the instant to go to the one place in all of London where she’d always felt at home regardless of the strictures of polite society and Richard Tattersal’s distinct lack of welcome for those of her sex.
“Take me to Tattersalls, John. They have advertised some young breeding stock I want to inspect. We need some outside lines to cross on Dare To Dream.”
-->
“Yes, your ladyship.” With a tip of his beaver brim, he helped her into the carriage and climbed onto the box. At John Coachman’s instruction, the groom stepped away from the leaders, sprang to the back of the carriage and the team of beautifully matched bays stepped smartly away.

Patricia A. Knight is the pen name for an eternal romantic who lives in Dallas, Texas with her horses, Italian Greyhounds and rescue mutts—and the best man on the face of the earth—oh yeah, and the most enormous bullfrogs you will ever see. Word to the wise: don’t swim in the pool after dark.
