GUEST POST: Ten Random Facts About The Starlight Saga by Sherry Soule

Ten Random Facts about the Starlight Saga ~ #StarlightSaga

Today bestselling author Sherry Soule has some exciting news to share with us. She has recently published the next book in her popular Starlight Saga series, a humorous paranormal romance. Sherry is doing this fun guest post to share the book love with fellow readers.
Be warned, these books have scorching-hot romance!
1.) I believe in the paranormal genre that aliens and science fiction type stories are going to be the next big thing. Add a little romance…even better. Vampires had their time, werewolves are overworked, and even though zombies are still going strong, I think extraterrestrials need some love now, too.
2.) In my first novel, LOST IN STARLIGHT, the storyline revolves around the two main characters trying to overcome major obstacles to be together. It’s like an intergalactic version of Romeo and Juliet, with scorching-hot character chemistry right from the beginning. Hayden and Sloane share a strong attraction and mutual interest in one another and become best friends, which make the best kind of love stories in my humble opinion.
3.) From the very first draft, I wanted to add something a little unique and special to Sloane’s quirky character. Thus, FRIGHT NIGHT BABBLE, her online newspaper column was born. (*Link to posts below) I think the short, humorous posts every few chapters adds a fun element to the narrative. My last few books were so angst-ridden and dark that I wanted to write something lighter, but still thrilling and romantic.
4.) The island that the characters live on is actually a real place within the San Francisco Bay Area. Although the name Winter Haven is fictional, the actual island is named Alameda, and it’s a lovely city to visit. I would love to live there! “Winter Haven” (Alameda) is located on Alameda Island and Bay Farm Island, and is adjacent to west of Oakland and within the East Bay.
5.) LOST IN STARLIGHT is the fastest book that I’ve ever written. It took me only about four months to write and do revisions. I had the idea in the back of my mind for about a year now, but it wasn’t until a short-lived TV show called “Star-Crossed” convinced me that alien love stories were super hot right now. And I was extremely lucky and blessed to have worked with some very talented writers (my CPs) that really helped me to shape the book into the thrilling storyline it is now.
6.) The Starlight Saga will be a trilogy; unless of course, it goes viral and readers clamor for more Sloane and Hayden adventures. Then I’ll happily keep writing more novels featuring this quirky and lovable cast of characters. (I know readers will fall in love with Hayden along with Sloane.)
7.) Sloane is by far my favorite character. She is just snarky and quirky and fun to write. Most authors admit that a little bit of themselves goes into each protagonist, but Sloane is near and dear to my heart. If a headstrong, gutsy, and imperfect heroine with an eccentric fashion sense appeals to you, then I think you'll love Sloane, too.
8.) In LOST IN STARLIGHT, there isn’t the insta-love or love triangle that is popular in so many YA books nowadays. This is the real deal. The book is meant for older YA readers and does contain some mild language. The characters are all eighteen years old, except for Sloane who is only seventeen in this first book.
9.) The names of the two main characters came to me instantly. They just seemed to fit perfectly. Some of the secondary characters had a few name changes during rewrites, but Sloane and Hayden’s never varied.
10.) One day, I was browsing images on a stock photo site and as soon as I saw the image of that purpled-haired girl (the female image featured on the book cover), I just knew that I’d found my “Sloane.” This photo completely inspired me to write her story and make Sloane different from most YA heroines. Hayden’s image, featured on the front cover beside his darker haired younger brother, seemed to perfectly fit the character I had envisioned, too.
So there you have it! Ten random facts about the Starlight Saga!

Volume Two of the Starlight Saga
For Sloane Masterson, being in love with Hayden Lancaster has been a series of highs and lows. Plus, some rather sucky consequences…like those annoying interstellar dating laws. But Sloane’s not gonna let a few lame rules get in her way. She’s on a mission to win back her man.
The big problem with that?
Hayden’s beyond stubborn. Overly protective. And majorly frustrating.
When Sloane discovers a shocking family secret, it thrusts her back into Hayden’s dangerous and mysterious world. Yet, she’s not the only one hiding things that could destroy the fragile bond between them. There’s something Hayden’s not telling her, too...
After a harrowing escape from freaky mutants, dodging an attack from a psycho stalker, and receiving a bunch of creeptastic messages, Sloane’s bizarre existence becomes a real-life horror movie. Add the unexpected arrival of Sector Thirteen, and Sloane doesn’t know who to trust anymore.
If she hopes to evade her enemies and protect those she loves, Sloane must get over her epic trust issues before those evil baddies catch up to her. And time is running out…
*This trilogy is intended for upper-YA readers, has lots of steamy romance, and is not considered hardcore science fiction. While there are minor cliffhangers in this three-part saga, each book can be a standalone read.

Guest Post for Author Lily Luchesi!

I was one of the people who hated the thought of vampires being anything but cape-wearing, coffin-sleeping murderers. Having been obsessed with the species since I was a toddler (ask my mom, it’s true), I had a clear picture of what a vampire was supposed to be, and Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee perfectly encompassed my ideals.
As I got into my very early teens, the sparkling vampire craze began. Now, I’m not going to say anything derogatory towards those vamps, their creator or their fans. I will just say that I was not a fan because those vampires didn’t fit into my little world of the Undead. As I perused the YA section of my bookstore, I came across three different series that changed my view on vampires in the modern world:
Vampire Kisses, by Ellen Schreiber.
The Saga Of Darren Shan (AKA Cirque Du Freak), by Darren Shan.
The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, by Heather Brewer (now known as Zac Brewer).
Each series is vastly different, and each series focuses on vampires in the modern world. Reading those, I began to start to perceive vampires in a different light. I always wanted them to be real (and I’m talking the “burn in the sunlight” and “can’t go into churches” real, not the types of vampire cultures we have today), but as I read those books I knew that a vampire like Count Dracula could never exist in the real world. Alexander Sterling, Larten Crepsley and Vlad Tod could, however.
I began embracing this new evolution of vampires: vamps who could drink bottled human blood, or drink from the vein and not kill. That didn’t make any of those vampires less badass than their murderous counterparts. Instead, it made me love them more: they were immortal and could fight if necessary, but didn’t need to murder humans to feed. They dressed the part of humans and could pass unnoticed amongst them if they chose. They walked amongst the mortals, the unsuspecting humans never knowing they were rubbing elbows with the Undead. The idea was exhilarating!
Fast-forward nine years later. A twenty-year-old Goth sits on her bed, watching a crime drama. She thinks, What if a cop’s perp turned out to be a vampire? What if he turned out to be a Bram Stoker-esque vampire? That girl was I (obviously), and I wrote the prologue to Stake-Out that next afternoon. What’s Stake-Out? It’s my debut novel published by Vamptasy Publishing. It is the first of four novels in the Paranormal Detectives Series (number two, Miranda’s Rights, was just approved and I should have a release date soon).
It focuses on said cop, Danny Mancini, who has a near-fatal run in with a violent rogue vampire named Vincent, who is on a killing spree all throughout Chicago. When the CPD doesn’t believe him, he gets fired.
Two years later, Vincent is back in Chicago, and Danny is contacted by the FBI’s Paranormal Investigative Division. More specifically, by Agent Angelica Cross, a beautiful girl Danny immediately falls for. As they get closer to each other, Danny starts having visions of a past life with Angelica, Vincent keeps killing, an old enemy resurfaces and Angie’s secrets are revealed for all to see.
I made two types of vampires in my book: the classic and the revamped (excuse the pun). Why? Because both of them are great and both types have a place in vampiric literature, television and film. I will always love my ruthless vamps, but just because the vampires who follow the paranormal laws I put into place in Stake-Out don’t kill to feed, it doesn’t mean they are any less awesome. If you do decide to pick up Stake-Out, you’ll understand what I am talking about. It is a vampire’s nature to kill. In my modern world, vampires just kill bad guys to keep this place safer for mortals, satisfying their innate bloodlust and doing good at the same time.
The vampires also have an ulterior motive: the less evil vamps out there killing wantonly, the less likely humans are to wise up to the existence of the paranormal world and start hunting down vampires (or shifters, or witches) just because they are afraid after reading ’Salem’s Lot one too many times.
So that’s what the Paranormal Investigative Division does, and you’re damn lucky they exist, or you might be dinner tomorrow night.
The point here is, the classics are wonderful and deserve to be kept alive, but some changes can be good. Just open yourself up to them. Look at the Underworld film series, or Buffy. Those are amazing vampires, but they are also fairly civilized.
It was an honor for me to be able to contribute my own vampires to popular culture, one good and one bad. Creating them was not hard, they brought themselves to life on the page, but it was a lot of fun. Just like in humankind, all types of vamps have their proper place in the world. In Stake-Out, I got to utilize two sides of the same coin and come out with something readers really seem to enjoy.
If I scared you, made you gasp, made you cry or made you shake your head and start yelling at your ereader, I have done a my job.

You can purchase Stake-Out internationally as an ebook or paperback on Amazon.

If you live in the US or Canada, you can purchase the paperback via Barnes and Noble or Books-A-Million.

Guest Post for Author Renee Lee Fisher

How did you think of that?

Countless times I have been approached and asked the question above.  Somewhere in my head is creativity that is bursting out.  When I write my thoughts to the computer it is jumping into a different world for a brief time.  The characters are always new to me and in the end they are my friends.  Don’t repeat this but they seem very real to me.  I want to share with you where my thoughts were in the books that I have already written.   So let’s begin.

The Heartbeat Series (Rock Notes/Love Notes/Music Notes and First Beat/First Bass and First Taste)
This Series I felt in my veins. Music filled my soul.  Being around musicians in my life I picked up on things they said or their mannerism.  I like writing lyrics as well and that part came through in the first three books of this series.  I wanted to share that even though my thoughts produces this series, while writing it I found my real brother who happened to be a lead vocalist of a metal band.  I won’t go into detail of our reunion except that it was very heartfelt and we are now very close.  I did have to take a step back when I first saw him in person because certain things about him reminded me of Max Rand my character and lead vocalist.  I looked on my brother’s wrist and there was a leather cuff like I pictured my character wearing.
In this series I felt the bond of friendships as well.  Most of us have that go to person.  In the series there is THE WALL that embodies all the memorabilia from the band and those surrounding them.  I am a collector of items similar and I too have A WALL.  It is in my office with inspiration and book covers and often I find if I look deep and hard into the cover that is displayed before me that I am pulled further into my own storyline.

The Crossing Series (The Knot Hole, The Passage and The Muse)
I was carried back in time in my head and thoughts for this storyline.  I wanted to find a way to travel back but still return to the present.  As I am quite the romantic I found that while I was leading a character in centuries past, I had her have the most memorable sexual and loving encounter that would be unforgettable even through centuries of time.  I have so often passed strangers on a street or an elevator… and taken a second look thinking I must know them from somewhere.  There was such an instant familiarity.  It could have in their eyes, smile or actions.  This series will take you on the journey I took in my head traveling to many places and returning with not a souvenir but a place in the characters heart that will never be replaced or forgotten.  You will never look at strangers in the same way when you think you may have known them or seen them someplace before.  The Crossing Series will have you believe so many souls are intertwined.  Love is endearing and timeless.
I began this series with thinking it would be an average read but somehow I got caught up in the adult fairytale myself and swept away with these characters and didn’t want to return back to real time any time soon.  You will travel a windfall of unbelievable events that keep unfolding for one fortunate lead female character.  Taryn will bring you into her world through the Knot Hole and bring your full circle to the past and future and hearts that never waiver even through an extended test of time.

Derailed
When you look tracks you think of travel or destiny…I thought of fate.  This storyline brought out sweetness laced with suspense.  It has a sugary coated façade with a darkness unfolding underneath.  I hadn’t planned on writing this particular story for another year or so but the cover took me in.  I kept glancing at it on MY WALL and the notes came to my paper very quickly.  The outline was written immediately.  This story poured from my fingers to the computer.  I never got derailed on this one.  Sometimes I jump into another work in progress but this one kept me driven.  I had originally planned the storyline for Cape May, NJ.  What I hadn’t planned was to find the perfect cover of a beach in Cape May that old train track from mines years back reappeared.  With the cover just as I envisioned and the characters developing in my mind I was ready to give the story.  There is a twist that you will not see coming.  It will stop you in your tracks momentarily.  I have heard this story leaves you craving sweet too.  Perhaps that came from me finishing off my York Peppermint Patties jar that was full when I started to write this and empty with wrappers at the end.
This story I wanted fate to take over.  Sometimes we have to travel new paths and they may cross to where we are to arrive.  Derailed pulled me to a town to create a sweet suspense. At my computer I was not just typing keys but felt like my feet were digging into the sandy beach and the water washing over them.  I wanted to feel the characters pain and loss and also their heart beginning to feel once more.

So you may ask me again one day, “How did you think of that?” and I may say I experienced it whether it was real or simply my imagination.  Also you never know when I meet you or pass you whether your will be a character in a future book or a mention. You will to stay tuned as I don’t know where my mind will lead me next.

Guest Post for Author Nicole Dykes!

Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.com/Soulmates-4-Book-Series/dp/B01A0UO7PS/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1453404000&sr=8-5&keywords=nicole+Dykes

The Soulmates Series is about a group of friends going through adolescence and young adulthood. When the series is finished it will explore all of the main characters and show all of their perspectives.

Since they are a tight group of friends some things will be repeated from a different perspective, but you will get a lot of new information and new interactions in each book. I think it's fun to see the story from every side because you never know what someone is thinking and sometimes you don't know what everyone could be going through at home.

Book #1- Soulmates: The first book focuses on Maddy who is the sweet, innocent and sometimes naïve one in the group. The glue that holds everyone together.
Book #2-Fate: The second book focuses on Jake. The tough jock that has more going on than most people realize and uses sports as a distraction, but isn't actually in love with them.
Book #3- Rebound: The third book is Ryan. Who dates Maddy. You get to see his friends since he goes to a different school. This is the one book that shows very little of the rest of the group. *Spoiler*It will show their relationship from his point of view, but since they don't end up together will show him going to college and trying to move on from Maddy.
Book #4- Evolve: The fourth book is Jackie and Andy dual POV. Jackie is the typical cheerleader and social butterfly and Andy is the typical jock and rough around the edges. This book will show why they made the choices they made and how they ended up together. It will also show if they can stay together. Also, it will of course catch up with Maddy and Jake and show how their relationship has progressed.

Book 5- Untitled: The fifth book will explore Michelle's perspective on things and finally show her with someone. Michelle is the tough girl that doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I was more of a "Maddy" in school so this character is very dear to my heart because I definitely had a Michelle. Every nice girl needs a confident tough girl by her side :)

I love this group of friends and hope you all will too!

GUEST POST for author Elizabeth Butts!

So, my second book, Secondhand Purses, released this past Tuesday.  I was chatting with an author friend of mine, and let her know I had only recently realized I seem to be naming my books sequentially, without intending to (my first book, Singleish, was released this past May).  Her response was, "Wait, I thought you did that on purpose.  How did you come up with the name?"  I told her, "It was kind of stupid, really.  You see, I used to work with this woman who was completely over the top offended if a person put their purse on the floor.  She would actually move women's purses because it upset her so much.  Well, late in life I developed an obsession with purses, but am completely unwilling to part with the money for a full price one. I have E-bayed my way to a wonderful collection of used purses.  I was in my office and turned to see my purse on the floor, and thought of that former co-worker and started laughing.  I thought to myself, 'when you have secondhand purses, these things aren't as much of a big deal'.  I sort of stopped myself and was all, 'hmmmm, secondhand purses...  I like that...  now how to make it work in the book'."  Her response was, "Wow, I wish I had a cute story like that for how I named my books."

The challenge was making it work in the book, and it did work in the most wonderful of ways!  And because of that, I'm possibly a little kinder to my own purses these days.

Would love to know how other Authors come up with their book titles!  (and yes, I will somehow get the number 3 in the third book's title..on purpose this time!)

BLURB:
One Moment.
Once careless moment that can shred your heart and start building walls brick by brick.
It just takes one moment to change a person.
Ten years ago, Alex was a cautious teen who didn’t make friends easily. Somehow, miraculously, she found a lifelong friend and mentor. Even more miraculously, she fell in love.
Just when Alex’s world was finally turning into something she loved, her one moment happened. She went from sweet and vulnerable to snarky hard edges.
Everyone has that friend. The one who will tell you what she thinks, even if you don’t want to hear it. The one that would throw herself in front of a train for you once you were ‘in’. The one that hides her pain behind her sarcasm. That friend is Alex.
But when the center of her moment reenters her life suddenly, what is she supposed to do? Will her world implode on itself again? Will she end up in prison for murder? Or will things somehow end up like she’d always wanted?

BANNER TAG LINE:
What happens when the one person you are trying to forget won’t let you go?

EXCERPT:
I opened the door and nearly had a 1800s English romance novel level swoon.
I mean, seriously. Dayum.
I had to fight myself not to touch. How had I not noticed until now that Nick had tattoos? So my dream guy from my teen years has the dark Italian looks I seemed to crave, rode a motorcycle and had tattoos? My uterus was practically begging me at this point to just give it up already and make babies with this man. Or at least try to make babies. A freaking lot.
“Hey, Alex? My eyes are up here.”
Nope, pretty sure they weren’t. His teasing voice was trying to break through my thick skull as I salivated over biceps, abs and ink.
I shook my head to get the lust induced fuzz out of it, glared at him, and stepped back.
“Let me just get my purse and a bottle of water. You want one?”
“No thanks. I’ve got one in the truck.”
“Okay.”
I turned to walk away and felt his hand wrap against my wrist. I looked down at his hand in shock, the warmth flowing up my arm from where he held on to me.
He pulled me sharply towards, him, so that I ended up falling into him.
“This seems to be our favorite position.” His voice had taken on a deeper, huskier tone. This was dangerous territory. I needed to regain control of the situation, stat. My brain was trying to pull away from him, but I imagined that my girl parts had wrapped my brain in duct tape, put a gag in its mouth and was cheering me on from the sidelines.
I reached a hand to his chest to start to push him away from me. Ugh, he definitely worked out. I looked up to start speaking and was staring up into hot chocolate eyes.
In my defense, I did push him away. A little. He must have felt it, too, because he reached up and wrapped his other hand around mine and held it tighter to his chest.
I couldn’t have torn my eyes from his if you’d paid me a million dollars. Seriously, every cell in my body was frozen in place at this moment.
Nick slowly lowered his head towards mine. My heart was pounding. Oh my God, was I about to have a heart attack?  Well, I really didn’t care at this moment, it was a kind of worth dying right now, heart stopping moment.
