Review:

As I began to read this book, I found myself identifying closely with the character of Marisa. Why? For a few reasons. I too originally set out to work in journalism and have a degree in the area. However, I too became somewhat dissatisfied with it before I even graduated. I happen to love reading (and writing) vampire romance. Last of all, I am not a big people person either. 

The way Marisa seems to summon Corgan out of thin air was a bit strange. But that's somewhat explained later. Also, the flashes of his memories were sometimes confusing but very intriguing and I can only say I wish the author had dove deeper into them. One thing I was wondering about that wasn't really explained was why she could shut Corgan out of her head. Otherwise I found it an intriguing book.

"I imagine someone could live for all of time and still get things wrong. We were born to be flawed after all."

Well...I loved it! The author brings in some serious unknown factors into this book that I fully expect to see more of as the series progresses. Ronan is the oldest vampire around and he's a purebred from generations back. Meaning? He can kick serious butt and no vampire comes close to the amount of power he has. Kadence has been under lock and key her entire life. Being a female hunter means your life is planned out for you. You learn how to be a good wife and if you're lucky, a mother. And that is basically all their existence entails. Not yet resigned to her fate, she escapes and follows her twin brother on the hunt for the vampire that killed their father. Because of that one act, it sets into motion events that no one could have foreseen. I love how hard Ronan seems to be and yet, he can be so caring for Kadence. And she turns out to be something entirely new. This book does end in a cliff hanger. Things aren't really resolved. But I can't wait for book 2!

Review:

I read book 1 and loved it equally as much as book 2. However, I still find myself surprised that this is not the end. You would think they would have put an end to Franklin's horrible self, but nope. Totally not the case. Sam finds herself in much more danger than even the first book. Franklin is one horrible person. Like true psychopath. He can act like the most refined gentleman, and yet the most brutal killer. In fact, the man seems to feed off of the pain of others. I must say that the author created one heck of a villain. He has cunning, resources, and the smarts to use them. But I do admire Sam. No matter what she goes through, it seems like you just can't break her down. She just keeps getting back up again, determined to fight until the end. And Benjamin, also an equally tough character. Breaking all the rules with his lady, he knows what he wants and will do his best to protect her no matter what. Another excellent read!!

 “You can call me Hunter. I’m the man that took your wife Lisa and I’m also the man that will be taking things from you and your friends. I will be taking everything you care about and watching as your life and anyone else’s life you are involved in falls to the ground.”

I couldn’t help but grind my teeth. Hearing him threaten my friends and family ignited a fire in me and I couldn’t stop what came out next, “Listen here you piece of shit. I’m going to take great pride in bringing you down. I don’t care if its dead or alive, I will find you and I will end you. You will not touch another one of the people I care about.”

Hunter as he calls himself starts to laugh, “Oh but I already have Shane but maybe you should ask Macy where I am right now because I think it may interest you very much.”

I turned fast to look at Macy, she has her head down and was still typing furiously. She suddenly stopped, she looked like she had seen a ghost.

“He is outside Dawson’s house Shane!”

The voice on the phone began to laugh again, “You can’t be everywhere and you can’t be anywhere. See you soon Shane.” With that the call ended.

Macy was already on her phone relaying the information to Dawson, I could hear Dawson’s voice raise and that’s when I looked at the time, Sam would just be stepping out to walk Alyssa to preschool. The school was at the end of their block and Sam walked everyday to get there.

I quickly hit dial on Sam’s name from my contacts. It rang… “Come on Sam pick up” I could hear Macy behind me scrambling to get dressed, I took a cue from her and grabbed whatever was closest to me and threw it on.

“Hi Shane, what a...”  I heard Sam’s voice, I don’t let her finish her sentence, “Sam you need to get in doors now! You need to be off the street.”

I could hear her telling Alyssa to hurry up. Then I could hear it the sound of an engine revving to life. “Sam move, move now!”

I heard Alyssa scream and then the phone went dead.
